Littlefield to work on a hedge fund website

We have been commissioned to produce a website for a New York hedge fund, our first assignment for the financial sector for more than 20 years. Our partner, Keiji Obata, has quite an extensive experience designing annual reports and marketing brochures, working from the mid-to-late 80s, for major banks and investment firms such as Citicorp, Sumitomo Bank, Merrill Lynch and Morgan Grenfell, as well as such prestigious American financial institutions as E.F. Hutton and C.J.Lawrence, both of which have been acquired and are no longer in existence. Although his experience only involved print media at that time, as the Internet was still non-existent, Keiji feels rather comfortable getting back to his old turf.

The Loomba Foundation Diwali at the UN

On November 29, 2007, the Loomba Foundation held its Diwali Dinner at the United Nations in New York. The honorees set the tone for the evening with stimulating keynote speeches from Dr. Craig Barrett, Chairman of Intel and The First Lady, Laura Bush on video from Washington DC. The Loomba Foundation's mission now stands at 3,600 full scholarships a year for children of destitute widows in India and establishing a growing program in South Africa.

The Loomba Foundation is a sister charity of the Loomba Trust, founded in 1997 in the UK by Sri Raj Loomba. Inspired by his late mother who, in 1954 at age 37, became a widow in India with seven children to educate, Raj Loomba dedicated himself to improving conditions for widows and their children around the world. For more information, please visit www.loombafoundation.org

Through the introduction by our another of our NPO clients, United Nations Association of New York, Littlefield has been providing creative services for the Loomba Foundation since this summer.

United Nations Day Humanitarian Awards Dinner 2007:
Spotlight on the Global Water Crisis

Littlefield & Company was invited to participate this past autumn in a prestigious gala event sponsored by a volunteer organization, The United Nations Association of New York. Littlefield volunteered the entire range of its creative services to: design the gala invitations, design and supervise the printing of the gala dinner program, and produce a booklet detailing water-conservation and usage issues worldwide. We brought the use of a new environmentally-sensitive, waterless printing program being promoted by Toray, one of our major clients, to the attention of all the attendees. This was premier positioning for The Waterless Printing Association and for the printer in charge, Amos Communications. We thank them for their generous support for introducing this Green technology which was so in harmony with the evening's theme.

The scope of the Global Water Crisis is staggering. Water scarcity already affects every continent and over 40% of the world's people. More than 2.2 million people, many in developing countries, die each year from diseases associated with poor water and unsanitary conditions. Every 15 seconds, a child dies from drinking contaminated water. Some vital progress is being made by certain organizations.
The United Nations Association of New York, UNA-NY, hosted its 3rd annual Humanitarian Awards gala dinner on Thursday, October 25, 2007, in the Delegates' Dining Room at the United Nations.

UNA-NY's Humanitarian Awards are presented each year in observance of United Nations Day. Our focus this year, The Global Water Crisis, recognized that 1.1 billion people lack access to clean water resulting in disease particularly amongst children and premature death.

UNA-NY recognized three honorees for their outstanding achievement and very significant efforts to provide clean water to millions of people around the world. The honorees have demonstrated deep commitment and global leadership on water initiatives and sustainable development.

Guy Laliberte, Cirque du Soleil and One Drop Foundation.
• Rotary International and Foundation.
• Antony Burgmans, former Chairman of Unilever.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Madame Ban attended the reception. The Secretary-General addressed the honorees and reception guests. Ambassador Joseph Verner Reed was the Master of Ceremonies at the dinner. Internationally-known Cirque du Soleil performed its magic as part of the evening's entertainment. The attendees represented a diverse and distinguished group of leaders from the diplomatic and business communities, non-governmental organizations, and entertainment industry, as well as the NYC community and supporters of the United Nations. As a memento of the evening, more than 30 publishers donated multiple copies of handsome, illustrated books on various water-related themes.

In Waterloo, Iowa

Steeve Hogan's funeral was held, on August 16th, at Sacred Heart Church in Waterloo, Iowa, his hometown. We flew to Cedar Rapids, IA, and drove a few hours through the plains to the small town which sits smack in the center of the continental US. At the service and at the gathering after, we met his parents, and his family members: 6 brothers and sisters, and even some of his high school classmates. In memory of Steve, and for his beautiful hometown and the people who live there, we will keep a photo gallery of the event here.

Steve Hogan Passed Away

Dear Friends:
We are deeply saddened to inform you that our beloved friend and invaluable contributor to our company, Steve Hogan passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2007. He had been fighting a rapidly advancing AIDS condition for what was only a few weeks. With his God-given creativity, acerbic wit and deep insight into language and culture, he added so much to our lives, and we are forever indebted to him for that. He will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go to Steve's family and all those who were close to him.

If you wish to send your condolences, please forward them to his parents in his home town:
Ben and Doris Hogan
1648 Byron
Waterloo, IA 50702

We enclose a note from Steve's brother John, who stayed with Steve in his final days:
Steve will be cremated here (NYC), and his ashes brought back to Iowa for burial. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 16th, in Waterloo, Iowa. I believe the funeral will take place at Sacred Heart Church. You and any of Steve's friends are, of course, welcome to come to the funeral, but I understand (and I know Steve would be the first to tell you) that coming to Iowa is not practical for most people out here in New York. I am going to see about planning a memorial service for Steve here in New York at the Buddhist Center. I don't have the date set yet, but it will be after the funeral. I'll email you as soon as I have the details set. I'm looking forward to meeting so many people whose lives Steve touched; I want to make this memorial a celebration of his life and his legacy as much as possible, and I'm hoping we can all share stories about Steve. He was always a joyful person who was so excited about life, and I think it will be a fitting tribute to him to share as many laughs as tears.

Steve meant so much to us, and we are just devastated by this loss. We may be difficult to reach for the next week or so (we are planning to attend the funeral), but will certainly keep you posted about the memorial service.

Sincerely yours,
Keiji Obata & Junko Mayumi
